Recently, a new Metro game was rumored to be releasing in 2017 thanks to a website for Metro 2035, the final novel in Dmitry Glukhovsky’s book series.
The website features a timeline of when Metro’s books and video games released, including the events of each one. “The next Metro video game” is pegged for 2017, and its description reads, “It all adds up to something. Where the books end their story, the game will pick it up. An era of great discoveries lies ahead.” In turn, this makes it sound as if the game would take place after the events of Metro 2035, which is set to release in English this holiday.
However, Publisher Deep Silver has released a statement with regards the rumor:
“As the exclusive rights holder to video games set in the Metro 2033 universe, Deep Silver has ambitious plans for the hugely successful Metro series. But just to manage our fans’ expectations–releasing the next Metro game in 2017 is not one of them. When we have more news to share, we will.”
The timeline on the Metro 2035 website has also been updated to “An untitled Metro project” with no date. The description now reads, “But the Metro saga doesn’t end where the books leave us… An era of great discoveries lies ahead!”
As a huge fan of both the books and games, this news is slightly disappointing, but the last part of the Deep Silver’s statement certainly gets me excited for new possibilities in the future.
